Bilingualism Week at the Port of Kribi: Kick-off in Mboro
Promoting language skills as a driver of performance and global integration
The Port Authority of Kribi launched its Bilingualism Week with a field sensitisation tour, highlighting the strategic importance of mastering both English and French.
As part of Bilingualism Week held from May 4 to 7, 2026, the Port Authority of Kribi (PAK) officially launched its activities with a sensitisation tour at its Mboro site.
The first day focused on direct engagement with staff, emphasizing the importance of bilingualism in an increasingly demanding and globally connected professional environment. At the core of the discussions was a clear message: proficiency in both English and French is a key driver of performance, integration, and career growth.
A major highlight of the day was the presence of the General Manager, Patrice Melom, who personally took part in the tour, reaffirming his role as the institution’s leading advocate for bilingualism.
The visit began at the main gate with security personnel, where exchanges revealed varying levels of responsiveness in bilingual situations. The delegation then moved to the control tower, where staff interact directly with vessels, making it evident that bilingualism is not just an added advantage but a core operational requirement.
In line with its commitment, PAK provides language training in both English and French, tailored to employees’ needs, to strengthen communication and operational efficiency across all levels.
Extending this initiative beyond the port, the delegation visited Government Bilingual High School Talla and Collège Père Monti, where students were encouraged to view language mastery as a gateway to future opportunities.
Through this initiative, PAK reaffirms its ambition to build a skilled, inclusive workforce aligned with international standards.
