Port Cooperation: Kribi Strengthens Security through SCOPE Africa

A Memorandum of Understanding signed in Yaoundé marks a strategic step forward for maritime safety and security in West and Central Africa.

On March 27, 2026, the Port Authority of Kribi reached a new milestone in port security by joining the SCOPE Africa project, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding during the first steering committee meeting held in Yaoundé.

On March 27, 2026, in Yaoundé, the Port Authority of Kribi achieved a significant milestone in its port security strategy during the first Steering Committee (COPIL) meeting of the SCOPE Africa project.

The meeting was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Patrice Melom, Director General of the PAK, and Cyriaque Akouedegnon, Regional Coordinator of the project.

This agreement carries strong strategic significance in light of growing challenges related to maritime safety and security. By joining this network of ten ports along the Atlantic coast, the Port of Kribi is strengthening its commitment to securing logistics corridors and enhancing the resilience of maritime trade flows.

Beyond its operational role, the Port of Kribi is embracing a broader vision of a secure “maritimization” of the economy—ensuring safer, more reliable, and more competitive trade across West and Central Africa.

The Director General was joined by several high-level stakeholders, both in person and virtually, including representatives of the national port authority, the European Union Delegation to Cameroon, and key officials from the SCOPE Africa project. Notable participants included Jean Marie Koffi, Secretary General of the Port Management Association of West and Central Africa (PMAWCA), Fanny Cossec, Head of the SCOPE Africa project, and Nico Vertongen, Technical Director of the project.

Through this initiative, the Port Authority of Kribi reinforces its position as a modern port committed to international security standards and to stronger regional cooperation.
