It is in line with its ambitions to develop its activities, particularly concerning the effective establishment of its economic zone that the Port Authority of Kribi has applied as a member of the Steering Committee of the Africa Economic Zones Organization, AEZO. And it paid off! Indeed, after an election held during the 5th meeting of this prestigious institution, PAK was confirmed as a member of the Committee with 58% of the vote. As a reminder, the African Association of Economic Zones is a continental association founded in November 2015 by the Tanger Med group with the participation of representatives of several other African economic zones.
It gathers the main public and private institutions in charge of the development, management and promotion of economic areas in Africa and has nearly 80 members representing 45 countries. Its objectives are purely strategic as it promotes the collective sharing of knowledge, provides strategic and technical assistance, facilitates connection with international business networks and promotes sustainable economic models and practices. One thing for sure is that the Port Authority of Kribi will greatly benefit from this new status, considering its ambition to become one of the driving forces of the Cameroonian economy and even of the sub-region. And it is on the strength of this positioning that the Port Authority has undertaken to develop the infrastructures that will enable effective and efficient operations.
A number of projects are currently underway, including the construction of a new wharf as part of Phase II, the drinking water supply project, the construction of the Lolabé-Kribi highway and several other projects, which means that work is well underway. The project to set up an economic zone, which is currently under consideration, will be one of the main elements in addition to the construction of the dedicated areas, which will boost ship traffic, the attractiveness and the development of the activities of the Port . The admission of the Port Authority of Kribi to the prestigious AEZO will allow, thanks to the sharing of experience, to better refine the establishment of its economic zone. Even better, it will offer PAK an array of business opportunities and potential partners thanks to the international business networks of the organisation.
