Edéa–Kribi–Lolabé–Campo Railway Project: A New Milestone for Kribi Port Connectivity

The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Cameroon, AGL, CAMALCO and their partners paves the way for the development studies of a strategic railway infrastructure designed to support the growth of the Port of Kribi and strengthen regional economic integration.

Signed on 4 June 2026 in Yaoundé, the Memorandum of Understanding for the Edéa–Kribi–Lolabé–Campo railway project marks a significant step toward enhancing the Port of Kribi’s land connectivity, following a record throughput of 12.7 million tonnes of cargo and 555,398 TEUs in 2025.

On 4 June 2026 in Yaoundé, the Government of Cameroon, Africa Global Logistics (AGL), CAMALCO, and several institutional and technical partners signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the development of the future Edéa–Kribi–Lolabé–Campo railway line.

Chaired by the Minister of Transport, Jean Ernest Massena Ngallè Bibéhè, the ceremony marked the launch of a cooperation framework aimed at assessing the feasibility, design, financing, construction, operation, and maintenance of this strategic infrastructure.

Stretching approximately 185 kilometres, the proposed railway line is among the major projects expected to support Cameroon’s economic transformation and enhance the competitiveness of its logistics platforms.

For the Port Authority of Kribi (PAK), the project addresses a key challenge: supporting the continuous growth of port traffic while strengthening the port’s inland connectivity. In 2025, the Port of Kribi handled 555,398 TEUs and 12.7 million tonnes of cargo, confirming its growing importance in national and regional trade flows.

Until now, this growth has relied primarily on the Edéa–Kribi road corridor. The development of a railway connection will ultimately enable greater cargo massification, improve trade fluidity, reduce logistics costs, and strengthen links between production areas and maritime gateways.

Beyond serving the port complex, the project is expected to support industrial, mining, agricultural, and commercial development across Cameroon while fostering stronger economic integration within Central Africa.

Through this initiative led by the Government of Cameroon and its partners, the Port Authority of Kribi reaffirms its commitment to modern, efficient, and sustainable logistics, contributing to national competitiveness and the economic influence of the sub-region.
