MINCOMMERCE Evaluates Implementation in Kribi

Two weeks after the arrival and processing of the first shipment under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) regime at the Port of Kribi, Minister of Commerce Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana visited the port on Monday, July 17, 2023, to assess operations and strengthen the framework.

Evaluating Initial AfCFTA Operations

The ministerial visit aimed first to review the handling of the shipment that arrived on July 3, 2023, in line with the tariff dismantling scheme agreed upon by African countries under the AfCFTA framework.

Reinforcing Cameroon’s Commitment

The second objective was to reaffirm Cameroon’s determination to meet minimum requirements for intra-African trade, an engagement that earned the country selection as a pilot state in the current experimental phase of AfCFTA, alongside seven other African nations.

Meeting with Key Stakeholders

During his stay in Kribi, the Minister met with all stakeholders involved in implementing the experimental phase:

  • Port Autonome de Kribi (PAK)

  • Cameroon Customs Administration

  • National Shippers Council of Cameroon (CNCC)

  • Single Window for Foreign Trade (GUCE)

  • Terminal operators

  • Scanner service provider

  • Freight forwarders and transport agents

This meeting provided an opportunity to assess the AfCFTA mechanism at the Port of Kribi and to issue directives aimed at strengthening the processing of future shipments, ensuring efficiency and smooth operations for continental trade.
