The Interregional Coordination Centre Shares Maritime Security Expertise with the Port Authority of Kribi
From 21 to 23 July 2026, the Interregional Coordination Centre (CIC) hosted a PAK delegation for a benchmarking mission focused on maritime security, safety and information sharing.
The three-day benchmarking mission provided an opportunity for the CIC and the Port Authority of Kribi (PAK) to share expertise, identify best practices and strengthen cooperation in maritime surveillance, information exchange and security coordination in the Gulf of Guinea.
From 21 to 23 July 2026, the Interregional Coordination Centre (CIC) hosted a delegation from the Port Authority of Kribi (PAK) at its headquarters as part of a benchmarking mission focused on strengthening capabilities in maritime safety and security. The initiative forms part of ongoing cooperation among national and regional stakeholders involved in maritime governance.
The sessions were opened by the Acting Executive Director of the CIC, Captain Bell Bell Emmanuel, who highlighted the critical role of information sharing in combating maritime crime. He also presented the prospects for establishing an Information Fusion Centre, which is expected to further strengthen regional coordination and maritime information management.
Sharing Expertise and Best Practices
During the sessions, CIC experts presented the institution’s mandate, its role within the Yaoundé Architecture, and its strategic coordination mechanisms across Central and West Africa.
Technical presentations also covered Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), cooperation mechanisms with international partners, and lessons learned from operational experience. These exchanges provided the PAK delegation with an overview of the approaches and mechanisms used to strengthen maritime surveillance and regional security coordination.
For its part, the Port Authority of Kribi presented the organization of the port, the responsibilities of its Harbour Master’s Office, as well as the activities carried out by its maritime safety and security department.
The PAK delegation also highlighted the progress achieved since the launch of the port’s commercial operations in 2018, as well as ongoing and planned infrastructure expansion projects aimed at strengthening the port’s competitiveness and operational capacity.
Strengthening Maritime Security Cooperation
Beyond the technical presentations, the benchmarking mission provided a valuable platform for both institutions to compare experiences, identify best practices and explore opportunities for closer cooperation.
The discussions underscored the importance of effective information sharing, operational coordination and the continuous strengthening of maritime security capabilities in protecting shipping activities and supporting regional trade.
Through this exchange, the CIC and the Port Authority of Kribi reaffirm their shared commitment to promoting effective maritime governance and security in support of sustainable economic development and stability in the Gulf of Guinea.
