Signed on 1 June 2026 in Yaoundé, the Memorandum of Understanding between the Port Authority of Kribi (PAK) and Helen Keller International (HKI) marks the launch of a cooperation initiative focused on community health, the fight against preventable blindness, the reduction of malnutrition, and the prevention of neglected tropical diseases.
On 1 June 2026 in Yaoundé, the Port Authority of Kribi (PAK) and Helen Keller International (HKI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding, marking the beginning of a strategic partnership aimed at sustainably improving the health and well-being of populations living within the Port of Kribi’s area of influence.
Concluded for an initial period of three years, renewable by mutual agreement, the partnership forms part of PAK’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy. It seeks to promote community and school health, combat preventable blindness, reduce malnutrition, and strengthen the prevention of neglected tropical diseases.
This initiative addresses major public health challenges. According to international health data, hundreds of thousands of people in Cameroon continue to suffer from avoidable or treatable visual impairments, while malnutrition and neglected tropical diseases remain significant concerns in many communities.
During the signing ceremony, the General Manager of PAK welcomed the partnership with a globally recognized organization, emphasizing that it strengthens the numerous initiatives already undertaken by the Port to support public health and community well-being.
In the coming months, the two partners plan to sign a first specific agreement focused on the prevention of avoidable blindness and the promotion of eye health in schools. The project will primarily target communities located within the Port of Kribi’s area of influence.
Through this partnership, the Port Authority of Kribi reaffirms its conviction that economic performance must go hand in hand with meaningful investments in human capital and social progress. By linking port development with community impact, PAK continues to promote inclusive and sustainable growth that creates lasting value for local populations.
