Educational Immersion: Siantou Students Discover the Port of Kribi
A hands-on experience bridging academic learning with real-world port operations
The Port Authority of Kribi welcomed students from Siantou University Institute for an immersive visit at the heart of port operations.
On Wednesday, February 4, 2026, the Port Authority of Kribi (PAK) hosted a delegation from the Siantou University Institute in Yaoundé, made up of 25 students and their lecturer, as part of an educational field visit.
Designed for undergraduate and graduate students in Transport and Logistics, the initiative aimed to bridge the gap between academic theory and the operational realities of the maritime and port industry. The objective was clear: bring to life the concepts taught in the course “Maritime Transport and Port Ecosystem.”
The visit began at the Mboro site with a safety briefing at the Harbour Master’s Office, where students were introduced to key safety protocols, including the mandatory use of personal protective equipment. This was followed by an interactive presentation on the port’s operations and core activities, offering a practical overview of its functioning.
The delegation then moved to the control tower, where students observed how maritime traffic is managed and how vessel calls are planned. This step provided valuable insight into the coordination required to ensure efficient and seamless port operations.
A highlight of the visit was the tour of the terminals, including the container terminal and the multipurpose terminal. Standing before docked vessels, cranes, and ongoing operations, the students gained a deeper understanding of the complexity and precision that define port logistics.
The experience continued at the Emergence building with a thematic panel on “Port Professions and Related Challenges,” led by teams from Human Resources and Operations. Discussions focused on career opportunities, required skills, and the evolving challenges of the port sector in a globalized environment.
Throughout the immersion, students discovered a dynamic ecosystem where every role contributes to the smooth flow of international trade and the economic competitiveness of Cameroon. The visit not only strengthened their understanding but also inspired them to pursue careers in the maritime and logistics sector.
By fostering this connection between academia and industry, the Port Authority of Kribi reaffirms its commitment to knowledge sharing and the development of future talent.
