Port Authority of Kribi Executives Earn IALA Certification: A Major Step Toward Nautical Excellence

An intensive training program in Casablanca strengthens maritime safety and nautical governance at the Port of Kribi.

After twenty days of intensive training at ISEM Casablanca, Kribi Port Authority executives successfully earned the prestigious IALA “Aids to Navigation Manager” certification, reinforcing the port’s commitment to a modern, high-performance, and secure maritime environment.

The Port Authority of Kribi (PAK) has reached a significant milestone in strengthening its nautical expertise. Following 20 days of intensive training, including three rigorous technical modules and a major practical case study, its executives have successfully earned the internationally recognized “Aids to Navigation Manager” certification, issued by the IALA (International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities).
The session was held at the Higher Institute of Maritime Studies (ISEM) in Casablanca, Morocco, from June 5 to June 23, 2023.

A Renewed Commitment to Maritime Safety

This certification reinforces a core principle: maritime safety is invaluable.
PAK teams fully understand the responsibility entrusted to them in safeguarding people and property navigating Cameroon’s territorial and inland waters—whether during innocent passage or when approaching port infrastructure.

Mitigating Risk to Enhance Performance

The reliability and operational availability of Aids to Navigation (AToN) — fixed beacons, floating buoys, AIS systems, VTS, and more — are essential to preventing:

  • maritime accidents,

  • significant economic losses,

  • human tragedies caused by malfunctioning or missing navigation aids.

A robust AToN network is the foundation of safe, efficient, and seamless navigation.

Toward Strengthened Nautical Governance

The Kribi Port Authority also reaffirms its ambition to establish a Local Nautical Commission, bringing together all relevant stakeholders: seafarers, ship captains, pilots, shipowners, administrative authorities, and economic operators.
This body will help integrate all operational concerns and ensure the efficient, sustainable, and internationally compliant management of Aids to Navigation.

A Modern, Reliable, and Secure Port

Through the commitment and upskilling of its executives, the Kribi Port Authority continues to strengthen its reputation as a next-generation port—modern, high-performing, and resolutely secure.
This IALA certification marks an important step in PAK’s continuous improvement journey and its dedication to providing users with a safe maritime environment that aligns with the highest international standards.
