Cameroon Celebrates the African Day of the Seas and Oceans in Kribi
On 23 and 24 July 2026, the Port Authority of Kribi hosted the national celebrations dedicated to marine conservation, the blue economy, and sustainable development.
Chosen to host the African Day of the Seas and Oceans, celebrated jointly with the International Day of the Seas and Oceans, the city of Kribi brought together key maritime stakeholders to discuss ocean governance, marine ecosystem conservation, and sustainable development. Through this event, the Port Authority of Kribi (PAK) reaffirmed its commitment to building a competitive and sustainable blue economy.
On 23 and 24 July 2026, the city of Kribi hosted the celebrations of the African Day of the Seas and Oceans, held jointly with the International Day of the Seas and Oceans. The event, hosted by the Port Authority of Kribi (PAK), took place under the patronage of Pierre Hele, Minister of Environment, Nature Protection and Sustainable Development.
Kribi’s selection as the host city reflects the strategic role the Port Authority of Kribi now plays in advancing Cameroon’s blue economy. Since the launch of its operations, PAK has established itself as a key player by combining port performance, logistics innovation, and the protection of marine ecosystems.
Through initiatives promoting the circular economy, sustainable coastal management, and marine environmental protection, the Port of Kribi continues to demonstrate that economic growth and environmental stewardship can progress together.
As part of the programme, the Director General of PAK, Patrice Melom, received the Minister in an official audience at the Port’s headquarters. The meeting was followed by a technical working session, a tour of the port facilities, and the official ceremony during which the recommendations of the working sessions were presented.
In his address, the Director General reaffirmed the institution’s long-term vision:
“To make the Port Authority of Kribi a regional benchmark for environmental performance, climate resilience, and responsible governance of maritime spaces.”
The event brought together around twenty companies, public institutions, and non-governmental organisations involved in maritime activities and environmental protection.
By hosting this continental celebration, the Port Authority of Kribi reaffirmed its commitment to making environmental excellence a cornerstone of its development strategy while contributing to the advancement of a sustainable blue economy for Cameroon and Central Africa.
