Maritime Safety, Environmental Protection and Port Operations at the Core of Discussions

From 19 to 21 June 2024, the Port Authority of Kribi (PAK) hosts the Technical Committee Meetings of the Port Management Association of West and Central Africa (PMAWCA/AGPAOC), bringing together delegations from more than fifteen member countries to strengthen regional cooperation on maritime safety, environmental protection, and port operations.

A Major Regional Event Held at the Port Authority of Kribi

The Port Authority of Kribi (PAK) is honoured to host, from 19 to 21 June 2024, the meetings of the three AGPAOC Technical Committees:

  • Maritime Safety, Environmental Protection and Operations (SMPEE),

  • Technical Studies, Infrastructure and Development (ETID),

  • Liaison Officers (CA).

This choice reflects the recognition of Kribi as a modern, efficient, and sustainability-driven port platform within the region.

A High-Level Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony took place at the Lagon Hotel in Kribi, chaired by the Minister of Transport, Jean Ernest Masséna NGALLÈ BIBÉHÈ. It was attended by:

  • the Senior Divisional Officer for the Ocean Division,

  • the Mayor of Kribi,

Three Days of Exchanges for Safer and Greener African Ports

The three-day sessions provide a valuable platform for:

  • sharing experiences,

  • highlighting best practices,

  • and collectively addressing current port challenges.

The objective is to strengthen the efficiency of port management across the region and foster a shared vision for improving maritime safety, environmental protection, and operational performance in African ports.

Strong Expectations for Concrete Recommendations

In his address, the Minister of Transport expressed the hope that the discussions—scheduled to conclude on 21 June—would lead to practical and operational recommendations on key issues such as:

  • port waste management,

  • handling of wrecks,

  • availability of electrical power in ports,

  • impact and development perspectives,

  • and the strategic role of Liaison Officers in enhancing inter-port cooperation.
