Strengthening the ties between the diaspora and local opportunities
On September 20, 2025, the Port Authority of Kribi (PAK) marked its presence as an institutional partner at the International Forum Ensemble Back Home, held at the Palais des Arts in Plessis-Robinson, in the Paris region. This high-level gathering, dedicated to mobilizing the African and Cameroonian diaspora, highlighted the strategic role of PAK in economic and regional development.
A representative PAK delegation
PAK was represented by a delegation led by Habib Iya, Head of the Port Authority of Kribi Representation in Douala, accompanied by Franck Din Ipoua, Head of the Commercial and Marketing Department, and Jonathan Metote, Head of the Communication and Public Relations Unit. Their presence underscored PAK’s commitment to promoting its role as an economic driver and supporting diaspora initiatives in leveraging the opportunities offered by Kribi.
Diaspora and collective power in action
During a roundtable discussion on the theme:
“Diaspora: How to move from potential to real power of action?”,
Habib Iya revisited the genesis of the Kribi port project and its tangible impact on Cameroon’s economy. He stressed that the Port of Kribi is not only a deep-sea maritime platform capable of accommodating 400-meter vessels, but also a logistics and industrial hub of reference for Central Africa and beyond.
He further emphasized that diasporas must seize these opportunities by structuring their skills, investing in value chains, and building solid partnerships with local stakeholders.
Turning financial flows into collective strength
The forum highlighted the need for the diaspora to better organize itself in order to transform financial flows—estimated at nearly 100 billion USD sent annually to Sub-Saharan Africa—into a true lever of development. Discussions also explored key levers such as the valorization of human capital, mapping of skills, the power of storytelling, a shared vision, and a spirit of cooperation.
PAK, a crossroads of opportunities
By participating in this forum, the Port Authority of Kribi reaffirmed its role as a strategic partner for African diasporas. More than just a maritime hub, Kribi positions itself as a crossroads of economic and social opportunities, contributing to transform the potential of the diaspora into a true collective power of action.
