The PAK joins the Port of Douala in celebrating its 150th anniversary!
Two ports, one national ambition: building an integrated and high-performing port system
On the occasion of the 150ᵗʰ anniversary of the Port of Douala, the Kribi Port Authority (PAK) proudly took part in this historic celebration, marking a century and a half of maritime excellence in Cameroon. This strong presence reflects the strategic complementarity between Douala and Kribi, serving a modern, united, and competitive national port system.
The Port Authority of Kribi (PAK) proudly participated in the celebration of the 150ᵗʰ anniversary of the Douala Port Authority (PAD) — a highly symbolic event for Cameroon’s entire port community.
The General Manager of PAK attended the ceremony in person, demonstrating the institutional solidarity and shared vision that unite both ports in the harmonious development of the country’s maritime sector.
This participation underscores the PAK’s conviction that Douala and Kribi are not competitors, but rather two pillars of a single national port system, designed to meet the demands of international competitiveness and regional logistical efficiency.
With its state-of-the-art infrastructure, exceptional natural depths, and integrated port services, the PAK stands today as the deep-water port of reference in Central Africa, capable of accommodating the world’s largest vessels under optimal conditions of safety and efficiency.
Its operational performance, innovation-driven mindset, and dedicated young workforce express a clear ambition:
To make the Kribi Port Authority a model of excellence, a driver of competitiveness, and a showcase of Cameroonian know-how.
The 150ᵗʰ anniversary of the Douala Port Authority concluded on a high note, blending celebration, heritage, tradition, and strategic reflection.
The PAK commends the organizational success of this milestone event and the spirit of openness shown by the PAD, which associated all its strategic partners — including the PAK — with this remarkable commemoration.
This occasion also served as an opportunity to reaffirm the structural complementarity between the two ports.
While there may sometimes be overlapping commercial zones of influence, particularly regarding containerized traffic serving Cameroon and its captive hinterland, the strategic reality is different: both ports are fundamentally complementary and work hand in hand to build a coherent, resilient, and integrated national port system.
-
Douala remains the historical gateway, the country’s main port of entry and exit for domestic and sub-regional trade flows.
-
Kribi, meanwhile, is emerging as a modern transshipment hub, a natural fore-port of Douala, and a catalyst for value creation through its expanding industrial and logistics zone.
Around Kribi, new industrial and logistics clusters are taking shape, attracting new traffic, supporting industrial transformation, and anchoring the port’s competitiveness at the regional scale.
Together, Douala and Kribi form the foundation of a high-performing Cameroonian port ecosystem, capable of competing with the continent’s leading maritime hubs.
This shared vision — grounded in continuity, complementarity, and cooperation — embodies Cameroon’s ambition to build a sustainable port system, driving growth, employment, and regional influence.
One horizon, one goal: to make Cameroon a central player in Africa’s maritime routes.
