CMA CGM Names Vessel After Kribi to Promote Cameroon's Deep-Sea Port

The French shipping giant highlights the strategic role of Kribi Port through symbolic naming.

CMA CGM, the French global leader in container shipping, has added a new vessel to its fleet: the “CMA CGM Kribi”, named after Cameroon’s deep-sea port of Kribi, located in the country’s South Region.

The ship made its maiden call at Kribi on February 6, 2021, a symbolic event highlighting the strategic partnership between CMA CGM and the Port Authority of Kribi. CMA CGM operates Kribi’s container terminal as part of a consortium that includes Bolloré and China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC).

With its name proudly bearing “Kribi,” the vessel will sail across international waters, promoting the port’s brand on a global scale. This move enhances the reputation of Kribi as a modern, high-capacity maritime platform.

Since becoming operational in March 2018, Kribi Port has achieved significant milestones, surpassing 1,000 ship calls by November 2020, and generating 115 billion FCFA in customs revenue by the end of that year—making it the second-highest revenue-generating port in Cameroon.
