In May 2024 in Marseille, the Port Authority of Kribi took part in a high-level event organized by Expertise France on strategic maritime corridors, bringing together public and private stakeholders to discuss the Global Gateway strategy, the green transition of African ports, and the geopolitical challenges of maritime transport.
On 15 May 2024, Expertise France organized a high-level event in Marseille dedicated to strategic maritime corridors, as part of the implementation of the European Global Gateway strategy toward Africa. The meeting gathered public decision-makers, international institutions and port stakeholders around key issues of Euro-African cooperation.
Discussions focused on several strategic themes, including the greening of African ports, alignment with European environmental standards, and the geopolitical implications of the IMEC corridor (India–Middle East–Israel–Europe), presented by Gérard Mestrallet. The role of Expertise France as a catalyst for structuring partnerships was also highlighted.
The Port Authority of Kribi, represented by Michaël Mama, Director of Operations, shared insights into the environmental and economic challenges facing African ports. His contribution emphasized the need to reconcile logistics performance, economic development and sustainability in a rapidly evolving global maritime landscape.
As over 80% of global trade is carried by sea, recent crises have underscored the importance of more resilient and secure supply chains. In this context, ports play a pivotal role as strategic interfaces between territories and international trade flows.
Through its participation, the Port Authority of Kribi reaffirms its commitment to international dialogue on the future of maritime transport and its ambition to actively contribute to the development of sustainable maritime corridors, supporting regional integration and trade between Africa and Europe.
