Enhanced Security and Greater Competitiveness through State-of-the-Art Equipment

On November 30, 2018, the Port Authority of Kribi (PAK) and TRANSATLANTIC signed a concession agreement for the installation, operation, and maintenance of cutting-edge scanning equipment. This investment represents a major milestone in the modernization of the port’s infrastructure and reinforces its ambition to become a key logistics hub in Central Africa.

Context and Stakes

The deployment of scanners at the Port of Mboro marks a significant advancement in:

  • securing logistics flows,

  • ensuring effective cargo control,

  • and boosting the port’s competitiveness on the international stage.

A Structuring Partnership

The commissioning of this equipment follows the concession agreement signed on November 30, 2018, between PAK and TRANSATLANTIC, granting a 15-year mandate to manage scanning operations at the Port of Kribi.

This public-private partnership illustrates Cameroon’s commitment to attracting strategic investors and entrusting highly technical operations to experienced operators.

The official ceremony was attended by the General Manager of PAK, the United States Embassy team, and the Senior Divisional Officer of Ocean Division, underlining the significance of this achievement.

Cutting-Edge Equipment

The investment includes:

  • Two fixed and mobile scanners capable of analyzing container contents in real time without unloading;

  • A Radiation Portal Monitor (RPM) designed to detect radioactive materials, a critical requirement for exports to the United States.

These tools align PAK with international standards in port security and customs control.

Triple Impact for Cameroon
  • Strengthened national security: mitigating risks related to terrorism, weapons, explosives, and hazardous materials.

  • Increased customs revenue: improving the fight against fraud, under-declaration, and smuggling.

  • Enhanced competitiveness: reducing clearance times and limiting physical inspections, ensuring smoother logistics operations.

Looking Ahead

Through this strategic investment, the Port of Kribi confirms its ambition to become a regional logistics hub, driving competitiveness and growth for Cameroon and Central Africa.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy of modernization and security for port infrastructures.
