Regional Training of Trainers on Port Security for West and Central African Ports

Building stronger port security capacities for a safer and more resilient maritime community

From 17 to 21 June 2024, Accra (Ghana) hosted a regional training of trainers on port security, organised by EnMAR – Enhanced Maritime Action in the Gulf of Guinea, in collaboration with AGPAOC (PMAWCA). The main objective was to strengthen the capacity of Port Facility Security Officers (PFSOs) in developing and conducting specific training programmes for port security personnel.

Organised by EnMAR – Enhanced Maritime Action in the Gulf of Guinea, in collaboration with the Port Management Association of West and Central Africa (AGPAOC / PMAWCA), this seminar aimed to strengthen the skills of Port Facility Security Officers (PFSOs) in the design and delivery of tailored training programmes for port security staff.

Participants took part in interactive sessions covering international regulations, best practices in port security, and case studies based on experiences from major ports in Africa and Europe.

The programme also included a guided visit to the Port of Tema, a benchmark for port modernization and operational excellence in the region.

As the first half of 2024 came to a close, this initiative highlighted the importance of capacity building, collaboration, and shared commitment to enhancing maritime security across the Gulf of Guinea and beyond.

👉 The Port Authority of Kribi (PAK) commends this regional effort and reaffirms its dedication to promoting a secure, resilient, and sustainable port environment in Central and West Africa.
