Positive Synergies Between GECAM and the Port of Kribi
A Strategic Convergence for National Economic Competitiveness
On Friday, January 24, 2025, the Port Authority of Kribi (PAK) had the honour of hosting a high-level delegation from the Groupement des Entreprises du Cameroun (GECAM), led by its President. This visit formed part of an ongoing drive to strengthen collaboration between public institutions and the private sector, aiming to enhance partnerships and better align strategies for the country’s economic development.
A Working Session Rich in Dialogue
During a productive working session, the General Manager of PAK, Mr. Patrice Melom, presented the strategic vision and ambitions of the Port of Kribi, which is positioning itself as a major logistics and industrial hub in Central Africa. He emphasized the port’s efforts to enhance attractiveness, improve regional connectivity, and deliver high-standard port services tailored to the needs of economic operators.
He also highlighted the Port’s catalytic role in Cameroon’s structural economic transformation, underscoring its comparative advantages such as its natural deep-water depth, state-of-the-art infrastructure, and a public-private partnership management model that ensures efficiency and transparency.
Recognition of PAK’s Commitment
The President of GECAM, in his remarks, commended PAK’s proactive approach in supporting businesses, particularly those operating within the Kribi industrial-port zone. He stressed the importance of sustained, structured dialogue between public authorities and the business community to overcome existing economic, logistical, and regulatory hurdles.
GECAM expressed a strong interest in deepening collaboration with PAK through regular consultation frameworks, joint projects, and improved access to port facilities for its member companies.
Immersive Site Visit
Following the session, the delegation was given a guided tour of the port’s key infrastructure. They witnessed first-hand the modernity and operational efficiency of the Port of Kribi, including visits to the terminals operated by concessionaires KCT (Kribi Conteneurs Terminal) and KMT (Kribi Multipurpose Terminal).
Discussions with the CEOs of KCT and KMT provided GECAM representatives with valuable insights into the range of services available, port capacity, operational conditions, and development prospects.
A Partnership for the Future
This visit marked a significant step toward building a more integrated and competitive national economy. It also laid the groundwork for a structured and fruitful partnership between PAK and GECAM, in service of inclusive and sustainable growth.
The Port of Kribi thus reaffirms its role as more than just a strategic gateway—it is a key driver of economic and industrial development for Cameroon and the Central African region.
