Port Authority of Kribi Hosts High-Level Government Mission on Future Economic Zone

A delegation from the Ministry of Economy visits Kribi’s deep-sea port to assess progress on the integrated industrial and economic zone project.

On 29–30 July 2020, the Port Authority of Kribi welcomed experts from Cameroon’s Ministry of Economy for a field mission dedicated to the development of a future economic zone within the port’s industrial park—one of the priority projects identified in the National Development Strategy.

On July 29–30, 2020, the Port Authority of Kribi (PAK) had the privilege of receiving a delegation of experts from Cameroon’s Ministry of Economy to review progress on PAK’s flagship initiative: the creation of a fully integrated economic zone within the port’s industrial platform.

The mission provided an opportunity for the delegation to tour the port facilities, logistics platforms and extensive industrial land reserve. Throughout the site visit, experts expressed strong appreciation and enthusiasm at the scale and quality of the infrastructure already in place. The deep-water terminals, modern equipment, robust operational performance and visible private sector investment within the industrial zone highlighted Kribi’s readiness to catalyse major industrial activity.

The two-day mission concluded with a technical working session during which PAK presented the project’s main components, including the institutional framework, business model and prospective financing mechanisms. Discussions centered on the timeline for finalizing the legal and regulatory framework governing economic zones in Cameroon—an essential milestone that will unlock the next phases of implementation.

This strategic project has been designated by the Head of State as a major lever of national development, positioned under the Greater Achievements programme. Once operational, the Kribi economic zone is expected to drive industrialization, stimulate trade flows, attract private investment and reinforce Cameroon’s leadership as a regional logistics hub in Central Africa.
