PAK Industrial Zone: Towards Local Bitumen Production

A new bitumen production plant soon to be established at the Port of Kribi

On January 14, 2022, the Kribi Industrial-Port Zone (ZIPK) welcomed the Minister of Mines, Industry and Technological Development, Gabriel Dodo Ndoke, for an official field visit.

Hosted by the Port Authority of Kribi (PAK), the visit aimed to assess the progress of key industrial projects, notably the CIMPOR cement plant, which is already 70% complete.

The mission also focused on preparations for the upcoming construction of a local bitumen production plant in Kribi’s industrial zone — a key strategic milestone in the port’s growing role as a center for industrial transformation.

Building more roads, with local resources

It is estimated that importing one kilometer of bitumen costs the State nearly 1 billion FCFA. The planned construction of a domestic bitumen plant at Kribi will significantly lower infrastructure costs, reduce imports, and support large-scale road development projects across Cameroon.

This new facility will enable the Government to build more roads, improve logistics, and facilitate industrial connectivity — opening up remote production zones and streamlining access to raw materials for local factories.
