PAK Enforces the Ballast Water Management Convention
Protecting Marine Ecosystems Through Compliance
In line with its commitment to environmental protection, the Port Authority of Kribi (PAK) strictly observes the provisions of the Ballast Water Management (BWM) Convention, as mandated by the State of Cameroon through Presidential Decree No. 2020/240. This national regulation aligns with the International BWM Convention of February 13, 2004.
Safeguarding the Marine Environment
Ballast water discharged by ships can carry harmful aquatic organisms and invasive species from one region to another, posing significant risks to marine biodiversity and ecosystems. The Convention aims to prevent the transfer of harmful aquatic organisms and minimize environmental damage caused by ballast water discharges.
PAK’s Commitment
By rigorously enforcing these international standards, the PAK contributes to global efforts in safeguarding marine ecosystems, ensuring that shipping activities remain sustainable and environmentally responsible. This compliance reflects PAK’s broader mission to balance economic growth with environmental stewardship in the Gulf of Guinea.
