When flows connect citizens, ports, and the planet: PAK’s strategic presence on the global stage

From November 27 to 29, 2024, the Port Authority of Kribi (PAK) participated in the 19th World Conference of the AIVP – International Association Cities and Ports, held in Lisbon, Portugal. The delegation was led by the General Manager, Mr. Patrice MELOM, who represented Kribi as a key voice in global conversations on sustainable port-city development.

A global platform to rethink port-city relations

Bringing together over 400 participants from 45 countries, this high-level event was held under the theme: “Open Quays: When Flows Connect Citizens, Port Cities and the Planet.” Discussions focused on major issues such as:

  • Port-city governance,

  • Energy transition and green ports,

  • Blue economy development,

  • Climate resilience,

  • and community engagement in port projects.

The aim was to strengthen the integration between ports and their urban environments by promoting inclusive, sustainable, and innovative practices that benefit local communities.

A major milestone: PAK elected to the AIVP Board of Directors

One of the highlights of this edition was the election of the Port Authority of Kribi to the AIVP Board of Directors for a three-year term—a significant recognition of PAK’s leadership and growing influence in the African and global port ecosystem.

This strategic position will enable PAK to:

  • Advocate for African ports within international decision-making circles,

  • Share its best practices in sustainable port-city integration,

  • and foster global cooperation around innovation, resilience, and coastal zone management.

Contributing to the AIVP Declaration for the United Nations Ocean Conference

PAK also actively contributed to the drafting of the AIVP Declaration, to be presented at the upcoming United Nations Ocean Conference in 2025. This declaration outlines the commitment of port cities worldwide to:

  • Protect marine ecosystems,

  • Pursue carbon neutrality,

  • and promote equitable development of port spaces.

A presence that reflects PAK’s international ambition

Through its active participation in this key international event, the Port Authority of Kribi reaffirms:

  • its position as a committed player in the sustainable management of port territories,

  • its dedication to building strong partnerships for urban and port resilience,

  • and its ambition to make the Kribi model a benchmark for performance, inclusion, and sustainability.
