PAK and ANOR Join Forces to Boost Port Competitiveness

A strategic agreement to strengthen standards, compliance, and operational excellence at the Port of Kribi

Patrice Melom, Director General of the Port Authority of Kribi (PAK), and Charles Booto à Ngon, Director General of the Cameroon Standards and Quality Agency (ANOR), officially signed a cooperation agreement on Friday, June 5th, 2020, aimed at reinforcing the competitiveness and attractiveness of the Kribi Deep Sea Port, which began operations in 2018.

The agreement, signed for a renewable five-year period, outlines five key areas of collaboration designed to align the port’s operations with national and international standards and best practices.

Key Pillars of the Agreement
  1. Development of Certification Standards
The two institutions will work jointly on the elaboration of certification standards covering products, facilities, services, professional skills, operational processes, and management systems within the port environment.

  2. Regulatory Compliance Oversight
ANOR will assist in ensuring regulatory compliance in PAK’s operations, within the scope of its mandate.

  3. Standards Assessment and Quality Promotion
The partnership includes regular compliance assessments and initiatives to promote a quality-driven culture within the port sector.

  4. Capacity Building for PAK Staff
Dedicated efforts will be made to strengthen the competencies of PAK personnel, with regard to national and international standards relevant to port operations.

  5. Pre-Export Conformity Assessment Program
The agreement also supports the operationalization of a conformity verification program, which ensures that imported goods meet established standards before being shipped to Cameroon.

Building Trust through Quality

“One of our key expectations is that this partnership with ANOR will help build greater confidence among maritime operators, and position Kribi as a preferred destination for both national and international partners,” said Patrice Melom, Director General of PAK.

This initiative reflects PAK’s ongoing commitment to compliance, safety, and service excellence. In 2018, the port earned the ISPS Code Certification, acknowledging its alignment with international standards for maritime security and the efficient handling of both containerized and conventional cargo.
