Operations at the Multipurpose Terminal: 9000 MTS of Petcoke Handled in 48 Hours
A logistics milestone to boost national cement production
The MV CANARY (Voyage No. 202204), arriving from the United States, berthed at the Multipurpose Terminal of the Port of Kribi on May 26, 2023, carrying 9000 metric tons (MTS) of petcoke. This thermal-energy-rich product was destined for CIMENCAM’s cement plant in Figuil, in the Mayo-Louti Division, to fuel the clinker production process.
Thanks to this shipment, the Figuil plant will increase its production from 150,000 to 500,000 tons annually, contributing to a national production capacity of 2.5 million tons per year, thereby helping to curb cement shortages and price hikes in the local market.
Remarkable handling performance
Unloading operations were carried out by Kribi Multipurpose Terminal (KMT), in coordination with the Kribi Port Authority, at an average pace of 4000 MTS per day. The entire 9000-ton cargo was handled in just 48 hours, marking an impressive throughput for dry bulk operations.
Strict safety and environmental standards
Given the polluting nature of petcoke, strict safety and environmental measures were observed throughout the operation. Dust suppression, containment systems, and worker protection protocols were implemented to safeguard public health and the local ecosystem.
