Maritime Security: A Cameroonian Delegation Embarks on a Learning Mission in the United States
Strengthening Capacities and Strategic Cooperation through the U.S. Maritime Port Security Program
From 8 to 22 November 2025, Cameroonian port and maritime experts are taking part in the U.S. IVLP program to enhance port security and learn from leading international best practices.
Cameroonian Experts in the United States to Boost Port Security
At the invitation of the U.S. Department of State, a Cameroonian delegation is participating in the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) from 8 to 22 November 2025, as part of the specialized “Maritime Port Security” initiative.
The delegation includes representatives from the Ministry of Transport, the National Shippers’ Council (CNCC), the Port Authority of Douala, the Port Authority of Kribi, and the Douala Maritime District.
Direct Exposure to U.S. Standards and Best Practices
This mission aims to provide participants with hands-on exposure to:

U.S. systems and standards for counter-terrorism at sea;

advanced risk-assessment and surveillance mechanisms;
-
best practices for enforcing the ISPS Code.
The ultimate goal is to strengthen Cameroon’s national port security framework.
Key Topics on the Agenda
The program covers essential themes such as:

national priorities and practices in port protection;

enforcement of maritime security regulations;
-
compliance with international safety and security standards;
-
inter-agency coordination for port protection and prevention of illicit acts;

the role of public-private partnerships in maritime security.
These discussions provide Cameroonian experts with a comprehensive view of modern port security requirements.
