Kribi Crosses the 225 kV Power Line Milestone
A strategic power project to support the industrialisation of the Port Authority of Kribi.
On Wednesday, 6 August 2025, the Port Authority of Kribi officially launched the construction of a 225 kV high-voltage line connecting the Kribi Power Development Company (KPDC) to the port, along with a 225/30 kV transformation substation.
The event was presided over by Gaston Eloundou Essomba, Minister of Water and Energy, and was attended by Jean Ernest Massena Ngalle Bibehe, Minister of Transport, as well as local authorities and technical partners.
Signing of the Strategic Partnership
A key highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Port Authority of Kribi (PAK), represented by its General Manager, Patrice Barthélémy MELOM, and the National Electricity Transmission Company (Sonatrel), represented by its Director General, Victor Mbemi Nyaknga.
This agreement lays the groundwork for a major technical partnership in the implementation of the project.
A field visit to the future electrical substation site enabled stakeholders to assess the progress of construction works.
A Line to Power Kribi’s Industrial Future
The goal is to build a 42 km double-circuit line capable of delivering 100 MW initially and later on 330–400 MW . The TBEA substation will feature three 60 MVA transformers, totalling 180 MVA.
Strategic Grid Connection and Energy Security
The substation will be connected to the Southern Interconnected Grid via Memve’ele (Ebolowa), Nachtigal, Songloulou, Édea Béon, and KPDC. This configuration ensures N-2 redundancy, securing uninterrupted supply to industries.
Timeline and Project Funding
Estimated at 35 billion CFA francs, the project will span 16 months, with commissioning scheduled for the end of 2026. It aims at strengthening the port’s energy independence and optimizing the use of the 216 MW KPDC plant.
Economic and Industrial Stakes
This project aligns with Cameroon’s vision to turning the Port of Kribi into a regional logistics and industrial hub. It will support the setting up of new industries, create jobs, and enhance the area’s energy appeal.
