Kribi at the heart of mining renewal
Strategic focus on iron ore deposits and responsible mining for sustainable development
The Minister of Mines, Industry and Technological Development, Mr. Fuh Calistus Gentry, has been on a working visit to Kribi since 15 November, focusing on the iron ore deposits of Kribi-Lolabe, Mbalam, and Bipindi-Grand Zambi. His agenda highlighted the role of Sinosteel in the extraction of iron samples at Lobé, positioning Kribi as a strategic hub in Cameroon’s mining future.
During his visit, the Minister met with officials from the Port Authority of Kribi (PAK) and representatives from the Campo locality, stressing the importance of responsible mining aligned with the needs and well-being of local communities. These discussions reflect the government’s firm commitment to sustainable and inclusive development in the region.
A major milestone is expected in December 2024, with the first iron ore exports from Grand Zambi. Work is progressing swiftly with the installation of key equipment, such as a multifunctional crusher, and the development of essential infrastructure.
