Community Infrastructure: Visit of the Autonomous Port of Kribi (PAK), Cameroon

“Kribi Port at the forefront of port projects in the sub-region,” says the President of the CEMAC Commission

On Monday, July 25, 2022, Professor Daniel Ona Ondo, President of the CEMAC Commission, visited the Autonomous Port of Kribi (PAK), highlighting its role as a key component of Cameroon’s industrial and port hub and its contribution to deeper regional integration.

A Strategic Gateway for the Sub-Region

Professor Ona Ondo described the deep-sea port project as marking the beginning of a new era for Cameroon’s economic development and, by extension, the entire Central African sub-region. He noted that the port, completed in its first phase and operational since March 2, 2018, aligns with the ambition to strengthen regional integration.

Leadership and Vision

Guided by Mr. Patrice Melom, Director General of PAK, Mr. Bako Harouna, Deputy Director General, and Mr. Bertrand Ndi Mendugena, Port Commander, the President praised the Cameroonian authorities’ commitment, exemplified by this advanced industrial and port complex in the Littoral (South) region. The PAK serves as a facilitator of inter-state transport flows, particularly along the Kribi-Bangui-Kisangani corridor, a key route in the Central Africa Transport Master Plan.

Regional Connectivity and Economic Impact

The port area is expected to ensure effective links between production, processing, and consumption zones, facilitating the transport of raw materials and goods in transit to neighboring countries. The CEMAC Commission leader emphasized that the port’s designation as a “CEMAC Integrator Project” generates positive impacts on its accessibility to both local and international markets.
