A sustainable alternative to wood presented in Cameroon on March 4, 2020

The Director General of the International Bamboo and Rattan Organization (INBAR) delivered a strong message from the Port of Kribi Deep Seaport on Wednesday, March 4, 2020, during a visit alongside the Minister of Forests and Wildlife (MINFOF).

Bamboo, a sustainable alternative to wood

Little known to the general public, bamboo is increasingly being recognized as a strategic resource for the future. Unlike wood, which requires 50 years to regenerate, bamboo reproduces in just 5 years, while offering similar — and in some cases even greater — functionality.

Cameroon in a strategic position

As the current Chair of INBAR’s Board of Directors, Cameroon is in a privileged position to propose and support development projects linked to bamboo. This resource represents a major economic and ecological opportunity for a country like Cameroon, which is a significant exporter of wood.
