AFPAK Strengthens Female Leadership and Professional Visibility Among Future Maritime Professionals

Through a capacity-building session conducted in partnership with Girls In Maritime (GIMA), the Association of Women of the Port Authority of Kribi (AFPAK) carried out a strong advocacy action in support of female leadership, employability, and professional visibility for young people in the maritime sector.

On Friday, January 16, 2026, the Association of Women of the Port Authority of Kribi (AFPAK) conducted a training and experience-sharing session at the National Advanced School of Maritime and Oceanic Techniques (ENSTMO) in Kribi, in collaboration with the young and dynamic association Girls In Maritime (GIMA).

This initiative, led by AFPAK as part of its mission to promote female leadership and support youth empowerment, was facilitated by one of its members and focused on professional visibility and the strategic use of digital professional networks, particularly LinkedIn.

Founded and led by Kabeyene Josiane Prisca, a student in Maritime Navigation Engineering, Girls In Maritime embodies the commitment and ambition of a new generation of women in the maritime industry. Through this partnership, AFPAK reaffirmed its determination to support youth-led initiatives and actively contribute to the empowerment of young women pursuing maritime careers.

The session highlighted the growing importance of LinkedIn in career development, skills promotion, and access to professional opportunities. As the world’s leading professional networking platform, LinkedIn plays a key role in shaping career paths, with several recruitments occurring every minute worldwide.

Beyond the digital tool itself, discussions addressed broader and essential themes such as self-confidence, ambition, professional identity, the courage to be visible, and the construction of networks driven by vision rather than opportunism. Students were encouraged to recognize their value, present themselves with confidence, share their ideas, and build a credible and authentic professional presence, both online and in real-life professional environments.

The session also served as a reminder of the importance of personal discipline and consistency in maintaining a professional profile. These values align with AFPAK’s commitment to fostering excellence, responsibility, and leadership among women in the port community and future maritime professionals.

Through this initiative, the Association of Women of the Port Authority of Kribi once again demonstrated its active role in mentoring, knowledge transfer, and capacity building, contributing to the emergence of a more inclusive, confident, and forward-looking maritime community.

AFPAK extends its sincere appreciation to Girls In Maritime (GIMA), the ENSTMO of Kribi for its warm welcome, and to the students whose engagement, curiosity, and insightful questions enriched the session.
