The 2025 Edition Kicks Off in Maroua

Under a radiant sky and a generous sun, Maroua was buzzing on Tuesday 3 June 2025, for the official launch of the 21st edition of the Cameroon International Cycling Tour. From 11 a.m., the streets of the city centre were filled with applause and cheers as the cyclists set off on an exciting adventure across the country.

Presided over by Mr Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, Minister of Sports and Physical Education, the opening ceremony, brought together a great multitude among which were local dignitaries, institutional partners, and passionate fans of cycling, who all gathered to celebrate this important sport event.

Among the key partners, the Port Authority of Kribi (PAK) stood out, reaffirming its steadfast commitment to supporting sports development, as well as encouraging a more active and resilient society in Cameroon.

The first stage, a 127.9-km-route from Maroua to Mora, topped by the young Cameroonian cyclist Boris Michel Tientcheu clinched victory with an impressive time of 2 hours 58 minutes 55 seconds, finishing 58 seconds ahead of a group of 13 riders and earning the prestigious yellow jersey as the race leader.

This opening stage gathered 58 riders from different backgrounds, setting the tone for what promises to be an exciting competition.

The 2025 Cameroon International Cycling Tour, registered as a UCI Category 2.2 event, spans ten stages from June 4 to June 15, covering several regions from the Far North to the capital, Yaoundé. This year’s tour not only celebrates athletic performance but also showcases Cameroon’s rich geographical diversity, offering both national and international cyclists a platform to shine.

One of the highlights of the day was the presentation of the PAK Blue Jersey, awarded to the most combative rider. This honour went to Glorad Saïzonou from Benin, recognissed for his remarkable tenacity and fighting spirit—qualities that reflect PAK’s values of boldness, perseverance, and sustainable development.

In the heat and brilliance of Maroua, the opening of the 21st Cameroon International Cycling Tour proved to be more than a ceremonial start. It was a moment of celebration, unity, citizens participation and environmental awareness—a real tribute to sporting passion and collective consciousness that motivates the nation.
