African Ports Productivity Award: Kribi Named Best Performing Port

A continental recognition of Kribi Port’s operational leadership

It’s now official: the Port Authority of Kribi (PAK) has been recognized as “Africa’s Best Port for Quay Productivity” by the jury of the 7th edition of the African Ports Awards, hosted by the Port Management Association of West and Central Africa (PMAWCA).

The award was presented on November 9, 2023, in Lagos, Nigeria, during the 43rd Annual PMAWCA Council, which brought together key stakeholders from Africa’s port sector.

This prestigious distinction rewards the efforts of PAK to optimize port operations, driven by strategic investments, cutting-edge equipment, and a high-performing organization. It comes just weeks after another major accolade: the “Milestone Achievement Award” received in Brussels by Mr. Patrice MELOM, Director General of PAK.

🚀 A milestone award in a strategic pan-African context

Held under the theme “Ports and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA)”, this PMAWCA Council session took place from November 7–9 in Lagos, hosted by the Nigerian Ports Authority. Discussions focused on assessing the role of African ports in the implementation of the AfCFTA, seen as a key driver for local value addition, enhanced logistics, and regional integration.

Key recommendations from this forum included:

  • Mapping out potential intra-African maritime traffic flows;

  • Encouraging governments to support the financing of African shipping services;

  • Improving corridors and reducing non-tariff barriers;

  • Aligning port infrastructure and services with projected traffic growth;

  • Accelerating digitalization and harmonization of port processes and standards to ensure seamless trade flows.

🌍 Kribi: At the heart of Africa’s logistics transformation

The award received by PAK fits squarely within this broader vision. It confirms Kribi’s emergence as a modern logistics hub, aligned with the goals of competitiveness, sustainability, and regional connectivity. With its natural depth, state-of-the-art infrastructure, and remarkable performance, Kribi is setting new standards for port efficiency in Africa.

PAK’s active engagement in the regional port community reflects its forward-looking strategy, serving the goals of intra-African trade, industrialization, and sustainable development on the continent.
