PAK joins the 2023 global celebration under the theme: “The Future of Weather, Climate and Water Across Generations.”

On March 23, 2023, the Port Authority of Kribi marked the 63rd World Meteorological Day, highlighting the essential role of weather and climate information in ensuring safe, efficient, and resilient port operations.

Thursday, March 23, 2023, the Port Authority of Kribi (PAK) proudly joined the international community in celebrating the 63rd World Meteorological Day, an event that underscores the vital importance of weather, climate, and water in shaping global safety, development, and societal well-being.

A Theme Focused on the Future

This year’s theme, “The Future of Weather, Climate and Water Across Generations,” reminds us of our shared responsibility in addressing climate and hydrometeorological challenges.
Each year, on March 23, World Meteorological Day commemorates the entry into force, in 1950, of the Convention establishing the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). It also highlights the crucial contribution of National Meteorological and Hydrological Services to public safety and the prosperity of nations.

An Exceptional Commemorative Edition

The 2023 celebration holds particular significance as it coincides with:

  • the 150th anniversary of the International Meteorological Organization (IMO), and

  • the 60th anniversary of the World Weather Watch.

This milestone offers an opportunity to reflect on extraordinary progress: from the first maritime forecasts and telegraphic communications of the late 19th century to today’s supercomputers and space-based technologies that are transforming global weather observation and prediction.

Weather Intelligence at the Heart of Kribi Port Operations

At the Port Authority of Kribi, accurate weather and climate information plays a critical operational role, helping to:

  • ensure the safety of vessels, infrastructure, and personnel,

  • optimize maritime traffic management,

  • anticipate meteorological variations that may impact port activities.

In an era of accelerating climate change, reliable forecasting and international cooperation are essential to strengthening operational resilience and supporting sustainable development.
