Port performances in Kribi, September’s Outstanding Performance

Despite the international situation still under the adverse effect of the Coronavirus pandemic, the Port of Kribi is gaining momentum up to recording outstanding performance at the end of the third quarter of 2020. Customs revenues exceeded eight billion at the end of September.

With the volume of activities achieved at the end of September 2020, operators in the Port are congratulating each other. This satisfaction stems most specifically from Kribi Conteneurs Terminal (KCT), the operator of the container terminal. In a recent communication, KCT made it public that September 2020 recorded the best performance since the start of operations on 20 March 2018. In more specific terms, what one can take home is that «the global volume of containers handled stands at 27,019 TEUs [twenty-feet equivalent unit] broken down as follows: 3,285 TEUs for import, 1,054 TEUs for export, 21,493 TEUs for emty and full transhipment and 1,187 TEUs for empty import/ export».

So, KCT proudly affirms that the company actually contributes in facilitating the development of regional trade and speeding up economic growth in Cameroon and hinterland countries. The other reason for satisfaction is non-oil customs revenues. The South II Customs Sector covering essentially the Port of Kribi exceeded eight billion francs at the end of September 2020. Another record!!! It is worth mentioning that this sector has recently been achieving an additional one billion revenue per month. That is why the sector’s objectives are becoming increasingly ambitious and are equally met to the profit of Cameron’s public coffers. In general terms, as compared to the sale period in 2019, the third quarter of 2020 ends with satisfaction in the Port of Kribi. «Comparison between these two periods shows a 57.8% rise on onshore and offshore calls.

More precisely, at the end of the third quarter of 2019, the Port of Kribi had recorded 76 calls against 120 in the third quarter of 2020», says Philomène NZAMEYO, in charge of statistics at PAK. She underscores that this upward trend is marked by the rise of calls on all terminals. «The container terminal recorded a 23% rise, that is 59 calls in 2020 against 48 calls in 2019. The multipurpose terminal recorded a 457% outstanding progress, that is 39 calls in 2020 against 7 only in 2019, which is partly due to the fact the terminal was a base for vessels operating on the oil and gas platforms». An analysis highlights the fact a comparison of the third quarter of 2019 with that of 2020 reveals that the domestic containerized traffic has doubled. Other performance indicators show satisfactory results especially an average operating time on the container terminal at 25 hours per call and an average handling time of 24 movements par hour and per gantry.
